On April 28, 06 I went on a ride down to Ft Myers Beach. It was a nice evening ride. Traffic was very lite. I slowed down to enjoy the sites. It was in the mid 80 degrees. I stopped at the bigging of Lover Key. I watched the Sunset beside the Big Carlos Pass Bridge. I watched as the sunset went down over the Ft Myers Beach Skyline.
I met a person from Vietnam. He flew Huey's in Vietnam and was from South Vietnam. He left his country in 1975 and moved to Chicago. He became a US citizen. He said in Vietnam everyone rode small scooters or small motorcycles. He moved to Ft Myers a few years ago and now wants to ride motorcycles again. Since he was small he was looking for a smaller bike and something that gave him great gas milage. I told him about the scooters from Honda 250, 600 and the Suz. Burgman 400 650 that would go over 100mph and get 70 mpg. I also told him about the 250cc Yamaha Virago and the Suz 650 Savage. I told him that the Savage 650 is a one cyl. and will get about 90 mpg but the top in speed is only around 85 or 90.
He told me about Vietnam but is against all the Mexicians marching. He said if he had to wait to come to here and do it legally the Mexicans should. He said that he is offended by they way Mexicans want to change our counties ways. He then said that he loves this country. He traveled all over the world with his work and still loves the USA the best because of our freedom. He also said that he is offended by the imigrants waving the Mexican flag. He said if Mexico is so great why do they want to leave. He also said that he never went back to Vietnam because the USA is his home now. He also said that he learned English before coming here and he now speaks English better than I or most Americans. He went on to say that if the Imigrants wants to come here that they should speak English and not Spainish.
I listen to him tell me how great America is for about 2 hours. He really never talked about the war. I didn't press the issue. He just said that he flew Huey Slicks. He knows more about American History and Politics than allot of Americans. It was a honor just to speak to him that night.
The ride back was a little cool. It dropped down into the low 70's and I was only wearing a tank top and shorts when riding my bike. I rode up beside 2 Harleys and they didn't even want to say hello or even acknowledge that I was there. Then they opened it up and raced ahead. I then cranked my throttle to try and catch up. I was in the other lane and still came up behind them. They gave me the finger and then the light turned Red. We were beside eachother. A dude in the older harley, A AMF Sportster, yelled over to me, "Hey, Poser, we are true BIKERS. We dress the dress and talk the talk. We walk the walk. You are just a wanna be. Go home tourest!" Then I couldn't let it be and said, "Your plates are from Michigan. My are from Florida. Now who's the tourist!" They then said that I rented my bike. I said, "The only bikes you can rent here are the little scooters and Harleys." Then he challenged me. I yelled over "Well if you want a piece of me fine. But I warn you that I spent over 10 years in the Military and I was born in the mountains of Penna." So they told me to race to the next light. They tore off and I just sat there. I knew that up at Sunderland there was a FL State Police Car. So he pulled them over. I honked as I pass and laughed.
So it was a good evening for riding. But I would rather be a motorcyclist than their kind of Biker.
